We are really keen to accept submissions from cartoonists and comic artists who are new to the medium or are not published, as well as offering another outlet for better known and published cartoon and comic talent.
It's a competitive business, and artists such as myself have decided that there must be a world for us outside of the mainstream publications. By which I don't mean that your work has to be crap, I mean that perhaps you are not YET published, you can't get your work seen you're just finding your feet or developing your comic art style and you want to test it out on the world.
Whoever you are and whatever you're doing, we would be genuinely interested in hearing from you. We can't guarantee that we'll be displaying every submission we receive, but we really are looking to give real talent a way into the comic art market. We are actively seeking people to submit comic art for sale here.
There are no strict rules as to what we will or will not accept at this early stage, we will look at all submissions according to their merits. If you want to sell your art online then we will aim to be as flexible and open-minded as possible.

It's early days, and as I sit and write this I am waiting for our first comic art submission. I just can't wait to see what appears! I'm hoping for funny comic art, hilarious cartoons, serious comics and thought-provoking artwork.

Here's a thought, what if you're passionate about comic art, or, let's be honest, just a little bit interested, why don't you have a crack at it? Some of my favourite cartoons weren't made brilliant by the draftsmanship, but by the thinking behind them.
Gary Larson generally, or David Lynch's 'The angriest dog in the world' for example.
So if you've got some good ideas for comic strips or cartoons then just get off your giant fat lazy-ass rear end and pick up a pen. You never know, you might make a squillion pounds of money.
Send them in, I'd like to see. What I don't really want is one-off cartoons of 'faces' wot I drew, I'd like it if people sent in some artwork that had a bit of, oh I don't know, substance to it.
A gorgeous woman scantily clad with well considered armour and an evocative landscape in a situation that speaks about her circumstances and bearing an expression that tells a story may be of interest to some, but take away the 'story' and the situation, and you've just got a pervy picture that you probably traced from a lingerie mag anyway.
You know what I mean.
This is kind of turning into a blog...
Well big respect and gratitude to anybody who actually reads this far. This Buy Comic Art website is turning into something of a voyage of discovery for me. When I set out looking for comic artists, I had a feeling I was going to be inundated with submissions of comic art and cartoon strip from comic artists and cartoonists with no talent whatever who were misguided enough to believe that somebody would be willing to pay for their drawing. I envisaged mainly comic art and cartoon strip submissions which would take the form of stand-alone stories and comic art 'sketches', much as you might find in the back pages of a newspaper. I imagined that for every comic artists who had his or her comic art published, there would be thousands of comic artists and cartoonists creating strip cartoons who were not published. I imagined that some of these comic strips would be of exceptional quality, but that there simply weren't enough hard-copy publications to carry them.
The reality of my experience is wholly different! For a website specialising in showcasing new comic art talent and actively seeking new and original comic strips and cartoon strips from around the world with no up-front fees and no subscriptions, I have had remarkably few comic art submissions of the sort I expected.
Instead, there appear to be countless numbers of comic artists around the world producing comic art images of GGA (Good Girl Art) which are often copies of existing characters such as Wonder Woman and Supergirl. There are also innumerable reproductions of classic characters such as Spiderman comic art and Superman comic art. I am trying to get some of the best of these comic artists on board, and I'm having to adjust my mindset and be flexible in my approach. Is it that there are just a vast number of people who loved these classic comic art characters and so ended up wanting to reproduce them, or is it that there is a vast market for people wanting original Superman drawings and original Spiderman drawings? I daresay I'll work that out in due course.
In the meantime, I will continue my search for new and original strip cartoonists and comic artists who's talent is as yet unrecognised and are looking for an outlet for their comic art. If that's you, go to the 'Submissions' page and let's have a look!

This website has been up and running for less than a month now and already I'm getting a scary amount of visits. If you are a comic artist, an illustrator or a cartoonist producing original work then please submit some of your artwork and we may very well want to have a go at selling it for you. The sad truth is, we're everso short of cartoons and comic artwork, and I'm keen to avoid disappointment. If you are somebody who is considering submitting some cartoons or comic art but are put off because you don't think anybody is likely to buy comic art or buy original cartoons from a site like this then I must protest, we are getting the visits. If you place your comic artwork for sale on this site it will get seen, guaranteed!
Naughty, Lazy Cartoonist!

There's a lot of work going on behind the scenes recruiting new comic artists and cartoonists for your perusal, delight and delectation. I've just had confirmation from a fantastic talent this morning who will be selling original DC and Marvel artwork, as well as taking commissions for all your favourites.

As for my own cartoons, well I went on a weekend away to North Wales last weekend and left my sketchpad there. Aargh! I was right in the middle of something that was going to be put up for sale right here on Buy Comic Art as an original signed piece of cartoon / comic artwork. Very irritating. Fortunately somebody I know is going to the same place this weekend and I should get it back.
Still, my own comic art is just a hobby. Since this is my own website I'm in a luxurious position of being able to surround my comic art and cartoons with other work of significant merit. Does that make my comic art look good or make people want to buy comic art of mine more readily? I doubt it, but the same as everybody else on here, the more content there is the more likely people are to see it and to come back and look for comic art and cartoons again.

One thing that's great about buying comic art and original cartoons is that apart from the fact that it's not likely to go down in value, if you buy comic art from the right people, if you're just downright cunning about how you buy original comic art you may just find you've made yourself an investment for the future. Look for comic art and cartoons that show originality, uniqueness, scrutinise whether the comic art or original cartoons you're looking at holds something special just for you or whether it's likely to appeal to another buyer of original comic art further down the line.

I don't know if some poor sausage forgot to update their system, but amazingly we have managed to register the url's www.BuyFantasyArt.co.uk and www.BuyOriginalArt.co.uk . So, at present we will be using the fantasy art and original art url's as access points to this site.
It may well be that when we get immensely wealthy from the phenominal comic and original fantasy art trade we're doing here we'll be setting up slightly smarter versions of the sites individually. We're just working on deciding whether comic art, fine art and original fantasy art have enough in common to merit one website,perhaps with several areas within that site. I'm getting a lot of contact from comic artists who want to work on commission or to submit their own versions of well know characters like Superman original comic art, and Marvel comics original artwork. There is certainly a place for this, and I'll be delighted to act as an agent if the quality is there.
However what I'd really like to find now are some submissions from artists who are drawing their own original strip cartoons and single-panel cartoons and comic strips.
This is where my passion really lies, and that's what I'm hoping for when I advertise for original artwork. I'd really love to offer comic strips and cartoon strips that really offer something special when presented as a stand-alone piece of signed original art on display in a home or workplace, rather than more abstract random pictures of a spiderman cartoon.

We've been having some interesting discussions lately about what comic art is.
Are cartoons comic art? Even single panel cartoons? What if there's no text? Can it be comic art if there are no characters? What do you think, what is the definition of comic art? I'll post the best answer on the site.
Comic art and cartoon links...
Do you have a website that is in some way related to what we're doing here at Buy Comic Art? Perhaps you have comic art originals for sale, or specialise in early comic art, perhaps you have a shop selling graphic novels? One of the best ways we have found to draw in visits is by having as many links on other people's sites as possible. I know a little about how to get a good listing on the searches, and contrary to popular belief outbound links do no harm. If you have links to sites with similar content, if you're trying to draw people in to buy comic art or cartoons, or even have an online art gallery, then because they are reciprocal links to sites with related content it would do us both good. Get in touch with us using the contact us button at the top and we can swap links. Maybe then we can sell some comic art!
Diversity outside the brief?
I had a very talented comic artist decline to submit some of his work for sale on this website on the grounds that he'd sold all his pieces of comic art and the only work he had available for sale was cartoon and illustration work. We should be absolutely clear at this point that we intend to be very diverse, and to cross genres.
We will not be limiting ourselves to a narrow view of what is comic art and attempting to take a very thin slice of specialist comic art pie. Instead we will assume that like ourselves there are consumers out there who's tastes cover a broad spectrum of artistic style which could be broadly classified as comic art. We would like to include art under our definition of comic art; that is imagery with a subject that is not 100% sincere or truthful. There are problems even here, since some work which could be most obviously and inarguably be classified as typical of the genre are in fact extremely sincere and fundamentally truthful. There's conflict wherever you look. So, let's be inclusive rather than exclusive, and keep our minds wide open about what can be considered comic art and what cannot.

We are still keen to accept submissions from artists who want to sell their art. There are plenty of people visiting the site who are searching to buy comic art, as well as those seeking to commission original art and buy original art, not just comic art.
Fantasy art commissions are an area I'm seeking to expand on somewhat, having recently got world class fantasy artist Ted Nasmith to work alongside us here.
So it's fantastic news for us that we managed to grab the commission fantasy art address. If there is one thing that has remained consistent throughout the short life of buy comic art so far though, it's the desire to supply original signed artwork for you to buy online. Buy original art here!

Three brand new websites called Buy Comic Art (obviously) Buy Fantasy Art and Buy Original art are now officially in production.
The Buy Original Art machine is stepping up a gear and we will soon be taking our slice of the online original art pie!

Just another update for those of you who are deeply committed enough to Buy Comic Art that you actually read this far! It may seem as though little is changing, but Buy Original Art and Buy Fantasy Art, as well as the beautiful shiny new Buy Comic Art sites are well and truly underway. The designs are all complete, with a consistent theme throughout each of the three buy art online sites, which will really strengthen the whole Buy Original Art brand.
We are likely to launch around the end of February, there is a queue of superb artists who have been in touch wanting to sell through the the site as it stands, so we're all very excited that the whole Buy Original Art company is going to be a huge success!

News flash on 28.06.2010 those of you with very sharp eyes will notice there has been no re-launch! Oh dear. Well, not oh dear really, we've all got to earn a crust and our other two websites, www.ChristianWebsiteSolutions.co.uk and www.ChristAppeal.co.uk have been keeping us very busy indeed. So Buy Comic Art will be staying in it's current form for a while longer. That said it's no bad thing, visits are on the up and we have more and more people looking to exhibit on the site on a monthly basis, so soon we will be going through the backlog of artists to hopefully present you with some fab new artists available for commission.
